Wine of the Month Gray Ghost Vineyards Adieu 2002
14706 Lee Highway Amissville, VA 20106 540-937-4869
Winemaker: Al & Cheryl Kellert
Comment:
Adieu is a dessert wine, a very elegant late-harvest Vidal Blanc. It was awarded the Best of the East Award at the Wineries Unlimited Conference in Lancaster, PA for having won more competitions and awards than any other wine East of California. Numerous other awards include the 2003 Virginia Governor's Cup.
As a late-harvest wine, Adieu is not always produced by Gray Ghost. The exceptional growing season contributed to the greatness of this vintage and the winemaker's skill coaxed all the nuances from the wine to give us this fine present.
Gray Ghost Vineyards is named after John Singleton Mosby, the "Gray Ghost" of the Civil War. The winery is located, appropriately enough, in the heart of "Mosby Country" in northern Virginia -- a perfect part of a day trip from Richmond or Washington if you are touring the battlefields. Family owned and run, it is building a solid reputation in the booming Virginia wine industry. |
