Wine of the Month 2004 Michael~David Vineyards 7 Deadly Zins
Michael~David Vineyards
Winemaker: Franck Lambert
Comment:
7 Deadly Zins is one of those rare gems in the wine world: a cult wine that we can call affordable. Made from the fruit of old vines in seven different vineyards in the Lodi appellation, this Zinfandel has the reputation of a crowd-pleaser and lives up to it.
Medium in body, a deep purplish red in color, the 7 Deadly Zins back label matches each of the Seven Deadly Sins to one of the seven growers. Fruity in style with a medium mouthfeel, this is a perfect initiation into the world of red Zinfandel for those only familiar with the totally different white Zinfandels.
The Michael and David here are from the Phillips family. Their winery is on the Phillips farm and their family has been farming in the Lodi area since shortly after the Civil War. Formerly the Phillips Winery, the name was changed a few years ago. |
