Wine of the Month White Hall Vineyards Pinot Gris 2002
5184 Sugar Ridge Road White Hall, VA 22987 434-823-8615
Comment:
This is a wine for sipping on lazy days, watching the sun set while you read a good book. Pinot Gris is the German name for Pinot Grigio; both are made from the same grape, but in different styles. Pinot Gris tends to be a bit more elegant, but is still an excellent choice for casual nights and warm days on the deck. Such wines are usually meant to be drunk young and enjoyed. This is one.
White Hall was founded in 1991 by Dr. and Mrs. Antony Champ, producing their first vintage in 1994. Brad McCarthy was their first winemaker, helping to build the solid reputation of White Hall wine with two Governor's Cup winners. He has now moved on to his own winery, but still consults back to White Hall. Michael Panczak is responsible for the 2002 vintage, and it appears he will continue to build the White Hall reputation. |
