Comment:

Schramsberg is a winery with a long history that mirrors that of the American wine industry.  Founded in 1862 by Jacob Schram, Robert Louis Stevenson visited the winery while on his honeymoon.  In 1916 the winery was sold.  For more than 50 years it was used as a country house and fell into decrepit condition.  In  1965, Jack and Jamie Davies found it abandoned, purchased and revived it.

The Davies not only wanted to own a winery, they wanted to make fine champagne-style wines in California.  People told them they would never succeed, that they could never match the French.  The Davises proved them all wrong.

This wine is a winner, a complex, concentrated, lemon-and-pear delight.  If you are looking for a special sparkling bottle for a celebration, this is the one.
