Wine inspires comment, and sparkling wines inspire conversation. The winery believes this wine is "steely" with "appealing toastiness". Reviewers speak of pear and pineapple aromas, or a crisp green apple taste. When I step back and concentrate, I think I can detect all of that -- but mainly I just like the wine. I have come to always expect good quality at a reasonable price from this house.
Domaine Ste. Michelle, under the guidance of winemaker Rick Casquiero, specializes in traditional style sparkling wines in the Methode Champenoise. They produce four different sparklers, from a delicate Cuvee Brut though a new Blanc de Noir to an Extra Dry. We preferred the Blanc de Blanc, a dry to medium dry wine we find pleasant for gatherings.
The winery itself is one of the wineries in Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. Located in California and Washington, these include Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Crest, Snoqaulmie and Villa Mt. Eden among others.
