Wine of the Month
Pedroncelli Winery 2005
Zinfandel Rosé
Pedroncelli Winery & Vineyards
Comment:
Pedroncelli's Zinfandel Rose is made for warm summer days and relaxing with friends on the deck. Produced from grapes harvested on the Pedroncelli estate vineyards and from one other grower, this is not to be confused with wines sold as white zinfandel or lighter rosés.
The wine has a fuller color than most rosé, with a crisp, fairly dry mouthfeel. Flavors of berries, cassis and peaches fit perfectly with summer fare, form burgers and chicken to grilled catfish. Best of all, it is very reasonably priced.
In 1927, John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased a small winery in Sonoma, in the Dry Creek Valley. He was obviously a man of vision, because Prohibition would not end for another six years. Decades of hard work by three generations of his family have built a winery to be proud of, and the winery still makes the Zinfandel Rosé he first produced in 1954.
