Wine of the Month Tomasello Winery 2001 Chambourcin 225 White Horse Pike Hammonton,
NJ 08037
Comment: The Tomasellos have a touch with Chambourcin. They have won awards with this wine several times, and we have come to think of it as an 'old reliable'. Their 2001 Chambourcin was a triple winner at the 2003 New Jersey Wine Competition, scooping up the Governor's Cup, a Gold Medal for Best Estate Wine, and Best Hybrid. The Chambourcin also was awarded a Silver Medal at the Tasters Guild International Wine Judging held this Spring.
The
Chambourcin is a dry red wine, made in a Beaujolais style with fruity
flavor. Aged in oak for six months, ready to drink now, but seems like it
might improve a little over the next two years or so. If you are not
familiar with Chambourcin, it is a French hybrid grown widely in the Eastern
United States, often used as a blending grape in red wine, but being marketed on
its own as a varietal more and more these days. |
