Comment:

The Tomasellos have a touch with Chambourcin.  They have won awards with this wine several times, and we have come to think of it as an 'old reliable'.  Their 2001 Chambourcin was a triple winner at the 2003 New Jersey Wine Competition, scooping up the Governor's Cup, a Gold Medal for Best Estate Wine, and Best Hybrid.  The Chambourcin also was awarded a Silver Medal at the Tasters Guild International Wine Judging held this Spring.

The Chambourcin is a dry red wine, made in a Beaujolais style with fruity flavor.  Aged in oak for six months, ready to drink now, but seems like it might improve a little over the next two years or so.  If you are not familiar with Chambourcin, it is a French hybrid grown widely in the Eastern United States, often used as a blending grape in red wine, but being marketed on its own as a varietal more and more these days.

Tomasello Winery is New Jersey's largest winery, celebrating their seventieth anniversary this year.  The Tomasello family has run the winery through all those decades.  It is run now by the third generation, Charles and Jack Tomasello.
