Wine of the Month Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery 9850 Newtown Road Breinigsville, PA 18031 610-395-2468
Winemaker: John Skrip III
Comment:
Pennsylvania Cabernet Sauvignon? Clover Hill and John Skrip III show us that it can be done.
This rich, fruity wine is just beginning to come into its own, and will probably develop in the bottle for the next several years. As always, it is the art of the winemaker to show us what can be done when we doubt; Clover Hill has gone a long way towards making the Cabernet Sauvignon an Eastern grape.
This wine has done well in competitions, with a Silver in the 2004 Eastern International, a Bronze in the 2004 Finger Lakes International, and a Silver in 2003 and a Bronze in 2004 at the Pennsylvania Wine Competition. That's great work for a Pennsylvania Cabernet. Having tasted it, we agree with the judges.
Clover Hill is a family-owned winery in eastern Pennsylvania, not far from Allentown, and one of the largest in the state. We enjoy several of their wines, and recommend you stop by to tour and taste. |
